Mark 7:34

32 Then ^athey brought to Him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, and they begged Him to put His hand on him.

33 And He took him aside from the multitude, and put His fingers in his ears, and ^aHe spat and touched his tongue.

34 Then, ^alooking up to heaven, ^bHe sighed, and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.”

35 ^aImmediately his ears were opened, and the¹ impediment of his tongue was loosed, and he spoke plainly.

36 Then ^aHe commanded them that they should tell no one; but the more He commanded them, the more widely they proclaimed it.

37 And they were ^aastonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well. He ^bmakes both the deaf to hear and the mute to speak.”

And looking up to heaven—ever acknowledging His Father, even while the healing was seen to flow from Himself (see on John 5:19).

he sighed—"over the wreck," says TRENCH, "which sin had brought about, and the malice of the devil in deforming the fair features of God's original creation." But, we take it, there was a yet more painful impression of that "evil thing and bitter" whence all our ills have sprung, and which, when "Himself took our infirmities and bare our sicknesses" (Matthew 8:17), became mysteriously His own.

Not even in healing, cloudless shine."

and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened—Our Evangelist, as remarked on Mark 5:41, loves to give such wonderful words just as they were spoken.
