American Standard Version
And all that heard them laid them up in their heart, saying, What then shall this child be? For the hand of the Lord was with him.

Amplified® Bible
And all who heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, Whatever will this little boy be then? For the hand of the Lord was [so evidently] with him [protecting and aiding him].

Contemporary English Version
Everyone who heard about this wondered what this child would grow up to be. They knew that the Lord was with him.

Darby English Version
And all who heard them laid them up in their heart, saying, What then will this child be? And [the] Lord's hand was with him.

Good News Bible
Everyone who heard of it thought about it and asked, "What is this child going to be?" For it was plain that the Lord's power was upon him.

All who heard about it debated in their minds what had happened and said, "What will this child become?" For it was obvious that the hand of the Lord was with him.
