And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.

Amplified® Bible
And he said to him, Your brother has come, and your father has killed that [wheat-]fattened calf, because he has received him back safe and well.

Contemporary English Version
The servant answered, "Your brother has come home safe and sound, and your father ordered us to kill the best calf."

Darby English Version
And he said to him, Thy brother is come, and thy father has killed the fatted calf because he has received him safe and well.

Good News Bible
'Your brother has come back home,' the servant answered, 'and your father has killed the prize calf, because he got him back safe and sound.'

International Standard Version
The servant told him, 'Your brother has come home, and your father has killed the fattened calf because he got him back safely.'
