But he looked upon them, and said, What then is this that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner?

But [Jesus] looked at them and said, What then is [the meaning of] this that is written: The [very] Stone which the builders rejected has become the chief Stone of the corner [Cornerstone]?

But Jesus looked straight at them and said, "Then what do the Scriptures mean when they say, 'The stone that the builders tossed aside is now the most important stone of all'?

But he looking at them said, What then is this that is written, The stone which they that builded rejected, this has become the corner-stone?

Jesus looked at them and asked, "What, then, does this scripture mean? 'The stone which the builders rejected as worthless turned out to be the most important of all.'
