Luke 22:62

60 But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are saying!” Immediately, while he was still speaking,¹ the rooster crowed.

61 And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then ^aPeter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, ^b“Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”

62 So Peter went out and wept bitterly.

Jesus Mocked and Beaten

63 ^aNow the men who held Jesus mocked Him and ^bbeat Him.

64 ¹And having blindfolded Him, they ^astruck Him on the face and asked Him, saying, “Prophesy! Who is the one who struck You?”

And he went out and wept bitterly (kai ecelqwn ecw eklausen pikrwv). A few old Latin documents omit this verse which is genuine in Matthew 26:75. It may be an insertion here from there, but the evidence for the rejection is too slight. It is the ingressive aorist (eklausen), he burst into tears. "Bitter" is a common expression for tears in all languages and in all hearts.
