Robertson's Word Pictures (NT)
Coming after me (opisw mou erxomenov). No article (o) in Aleph B. John as the forerunner of the Messiah has preceded him in time, but not in rank as he instantly adds.
The latchet of whose shoe I am not worthy to unloose (ou ouk eimi aciov ina lusw autou ton imanta tou upodhmatov). Literally, "of whom I am not worthy that I unloose the latchet (see Mark 1:7 for imav) of his sandal (see Matthew 3:11 for upodhma, bound under the foot)." Only use of aciov with ina in John, though used by Paul in this saying of the Baptist (Acts 13:25), ikanov ina in Matthew 3:8, but ikanov lusai (aorist active infinitive instead of lusw, aorist active subjunctive) in Mark 1:7 (Luke 3:16) and bastasai in Matthew 3:11.
