Then we have the pool of Bethesda described with the man beside it.

Now it does not say that the man was thirty-eight years old. He had an infirmity thirty-eight years. He may have been a great deal older than that. In fact, I think there is an indication a little bit later that he indeed was a great deal older than that. Verse 9 tells us that this took place on the Sabbath. The Jews were immediately up in arms because Jesus had done this on the Sabbath, and they felt He had broken the Sabbath.
