John 6:26

He is talking to the multitude. He had just done the miracle of feeding the 5,000 and they were tramping behind Him because they wanted to see more miracles. They wanted to get fed again. "Hey, free food! Who's against that?" But He says, you did not really want to see the signs. You did not want to see what I was teaching. All you wanted was the free food, and He tells them,

John 6:26-27

Do you see how what He is saying is important? What is important to God are the values that He wants to be in us. And so He says "Don't expend your energy worrying about money, but expend your energy toward those things that are going to please God, and are going to write those values—Recapture True Values—making them a part of what you are.

Jesus saw right through their willingness to follow after Him. Their god was their belly. There was not faith there. They saw with their eyes, but they did not respond for the right reason. They were not really sifting the evidence in a spiritual way. Jesus came back with something that is important to this sermon:

John 6:26-27

He is telling them, you got your thinking is all wrong. I do not want you to be pursuing Me for food, for bread. You need to pursue Me for the spiritual things that I teach you, the knowledge that I have from the Father that He has told Me to give you. So they ask a good question.

Notice, we are promised here by Christ that He will give us what we need for eternal life.
