Articles, Bible studies, and sermons that contain John 6:28:

John 6:28-29
Excerpted from: John's Feeding of the 5,000

He is telling them, you got your thinking is all wrong. I do not want you to be pursuing Me for food, for bread. You need to pursue Me for the spiritual things that I teach you, the knowledge that I have from the Father that He has told Me to give you. So they ask a good question.

He is telling them, you have to have faith in Me as God's messenger. I was sent here to give you a gospel, good news, and you have to believe that what I say to you is true. And that you need to accept it, to believe, and move forward. I mean, He was laying it all out. It was very clear, you need to have faith. You have to have faith in Me. It is only through Me that you will come to salvation. That is what He is talking about. You have to believe and that has to carry on then through one's whole conversion.

John 6:27-29
Excerpted from: Jesus in the Feasts (Part One): Unleavened Bread

He is talking to the multitude. He had just done the miracle of feeding the 5,000 and they were tramping behind Him because they wanted to see more miracles. They wanted to get fed again. "Hey, free food! Who's against that?" But He says, you did not really want to see the signs. You did not want to see what I was teaching. All you wanted was the free food, and He tells them,

He is saying, "I'm the priority here. You have to have faith in Me first." That is the greatest work you could do, is believe in Jesus Christ. And of course with that comes believing what He said. And with that also comes not only believing it, but doing it. So we have the two halves here. We have the inward and the outward as we think this through. Let us go down to verse 32.

John 6:28
Excerpted from: Reconciliation and the Day of Atonement

Understanding the tenor of the times, you can understand this because they felt that all they had to do was do some work that God said that they were to do and salvation would be theirs. They did not understand about faith, justification, and grace. They were looking for the magic formula that would get them salvation. They were trying to get salvation—not give their lives to God—to get, not to give. It sounds just like the people in Isaiah. Now verse 29 contains the most meaningful pieces of instruction, maybe in the entirety of the Bible.

John 6:27-29
Excerpted from: Values and Conversion

Do you see how what He is saying is important? What is important to God are the values that He wants to be in us. And so He says "Don't expend your energy worrying about money, but expend your energy toward those things that are going to please God, and are going to write those values—Recapture True Values—making them a part of what you are.

Brethren, the work of God is not preaching the gospel to the world. The work of God has to do with faith. The preaching of the gospel is a work of the church. But God is working to produce faith in His people.

John 6:28-29
Excerpted from: Faith (Part Three)

The purpose of the manifestation of the works of God in Christ—the miracles, the feeding of 5,000, of 4,000, the healing of people, restoring sight, giving people hearing—were all done by God to produce faith that you should believe.
