Excerpted from: Reconciliation and the Day of AtonementUnderstanding the tenor of the times, you can understand this because they felt that all they had to do was do some work that God said that they were to do and salvation would be theirs. They did not understand about faith, justification, and grace. They were looking for the magic formula that would get them salvation. They were trying to get salvation—not give their lives to God—to get, not to give. It sounds just like the people in Isaiah. Now verse 29 contains the most meaningful pieces of instruction, maybe in the entirety of the Bible.
The purpose of the manifestation of Jesus Christ—God in the flesh doing all of these good things that He did: preaching the gospel, casting out demons, healing all of these people, and setting an example (such an example that He said, "If you see Me, you have seen the Father")—everything that He did was done for one reason: that people would believe.
Now is that too simple? That is the magic formula. But, brethren, this has been the problem from the very beginning. Adam and Eve did not believe God and they sinned. The reason we sin, the reason there is trouble on the streets, the reason there is divorce, the reason there is trouble between parents and children, husbands and wives is because people do not believe God. It is that simple!

He is saying there that the purpose of the manifestation (the revealing, giving some the ability to see God) of the works of God in Christ is to produce faith.
Do we see God in His activities? Do we see God in His works? In the manifestation that Jesus spoke about there in John 6:29? Do we see God in His work? Do we see God in the physical creation? Romans 1 tells us very clearly that God's very power and authority - His very deity - is shown by His creation. All of that is nothing more than a type to help us to understand that by the physical works we can identify with this God and know that He is at work within His spiritual creation as well.

Excerpted from: John's Feeding of the 5,000He is telling them, you got your thinking is all wrong. I do not want you to be pursuing Me for food, for bread. You need to pursue Me for the spiritual things that I teach you, the knowledge that I have from the Father that He has told Me to give you. So they ask a good question.
He is telling them, you have to have faith in Me as God's messenger. I was sent here to give you a gospel, good news, and you have to believe that what I say to you is true. And that you need to accept it, to believe, and move forward. I mean, He was laying it all out. It was very clear, you need to have faith. You have to have faith in Me. It is only through Me that you will come to salvation. That is what He is talking about. You have to believe and that has to carry on then through one's whole conversion.
