John 8:44
Excerpted from: Love's Basic Definition

By way of example, the Bible says that eventually God is going to gather all things to Himself. But the Bible also shows that, when He does this, it will be because He wants to share what He is with others. On the other hand, we know that Satan is trying to gather everybody to himself. But why? It is not to share what he is, but to destroy. That is why God named him that. He is a destroyer, and so his acts will always be channeled in a direction that is diametrically the opposite of God's. So Jesus described him, in John 8:44, as a liar and as a murderer.

So we see these two great spirit beings: One who is love makes His actions channel in one direction, and another who is self-centered, whose nature is destructive. In fact, it even says that he will always act according to what he is—this is still John 8:44—because he cannot help himself. And he will gather things to himself for the purpose of destroying.

John 8:44
Excerpted from: Satan (Part 3)

Let us apply this to Satan. He is always in a bad attitude, but he is slick. With his attitude, there is also deception, deviousness, those kind of negative things that hide what he is eventually going to accomplish or hopes to accomplish through you.

We are dealing with somebody who is always deceitful. Remember what Jesus said in John 8:44? It is as impossible (I am paraphrasing) for Satan to tell the truth as it is for God to lie. Satan is the father of lies and what he does comes naturally to him. He speaks from himself. He has gotten to the place where he is so twisted, so perverted, so twisted in his thinking that he cannot think what we would consider to be a straight thought. What is always emanating from him ultimately comes to hate.

John 8:44
Excerpted from: Passover (Part Two)

You see, in reality, they belonged to someone else. They belonged to another family. Jesus very clearly represented the Family of God. These people, who were supposed to represent the Family of God, were not representing the Family of God. They were representing someone else.

It means he has nothing to do with it. It does not mean that he will not use it, because Satan will use truth to deceive. And what usually happens in such a case? We get a mixture of truth and error. You know what James says about a mixture of truth and error - it is all bad.

Jesus is implying that these people, too, are liars. Should we go further? Let us go further. It does not end. Let us go to Mark 7.

John 8:44
Excerpted from: Satan (Part 5)

What God says is the truth. What Satan says is the lie. Satan lies as naturally and spontaneously as God speaks the truth. They are opposite of one another, opposed to one another, enemies of one another. But the One speaks truth and the other speaks lies. The only way that the world or we are ever going to change is when we believe God and act on it. It doesn't have to be stated in a complicated way. That's what God is giving us the opportunity of doing—to act on His truth, free from being encumbered by Satan the liar. Did not Jesus say, "You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free"? It is lies that put us into bondage.

John 8:42-47
Excerpted from: The Radiance of God's Glory

Now please turn over to John 8, verse 42. As the conflict grew nearer, Jesus says it shows the difference between what He had seen with His Father and what they had heard from theirs. And when they protested, He declared that God was His Father and that the Devil was their father.

Jesus told the Jews that because they were children of their father, they did not know what truth was. They lived in a world of lies and distortion and falsehood. In a sense, truth was a foreign language to them; their native language was lies.

John 8:44-45
Excerpted from: Freedom and Unleavened Bread

The solution has to be a change of mind and the pure word of God. The unleavened bread plays a very large part in this. We can learn from John 8 that truth shall make us free. We also find, in John 8:44-45, that Satan was a murderer and a liar from the beginning. He was the one who instigated the sins of Adam and Eve and we can understand from that that our bondage is very directly tied into lies and deceit.

John 8:44
Excerpted from: The Right Use of Power

It seems as though they had no control over themselves at all. They wanted to do these things.

Here we have Satan described another way. He is a destroyer. Now he is a murderer. A murderer destroys life. He is a liar. He does not dwell on the truth at all. So he deceives all the time.

John 8:44
Excerpted from: Revelation 2-3 and Works

Notice that Christ pointedly said to these people, "you want to do." They want to do what their spiritual father does. And he speaks what is natural to him. There is a very strong drive in all of us to follow the path of least resistance or, we might say, to do what comes naturally.

John 8:44
Excerpted from: Deception, Idolatry and the Feast of Tabernacles

Christ warned us in John 8:44 that Satan is a liar and he is the father of lies; that he has been lying from the beginning and he speaks what is natural to him; that lies come out of him just as easily, just as naturally, as truth comes out of God.
