John 8:59
Excerpted from: Government (Part Five)

He shows them His identity, and they recognized it.

There, Jesus was using His authority as God. But I am sure that He still stayed well within the limits. He didn't take their lives! And we just read (in John 17) that He recognized that all power was given to Him. But He stopped well short of that, did He not? He went around doing good.

John 8:59
Excerpted from: John 7:37 Examined (Part 2)

He did all of the teaching in John 8, and it is one powerful sermon—all of this information about truth, about truth setting free, that their father was Satan, and Himself being the "I am." It is no wonder they got upset at Him and began to throw stones.
