Acts 2:36-37
Excerpted from: Psalm Genres (Part Six): Penitential PsalmsLet us jump down to verse 36. This section that we just read is Peter pointing the finger at them and saying, "Look, God raised Jesus up to preach a message, to do these signs before you so you would know who He was, and you turned around and killed Him. But that did not stop God because God raised Him up. And now He abides in heaven at the throne of God."
They just killed their God. Can you imagine the feelings of guilt they felt? They had been out there in the crowd saying, "Barabbas, Barabbas! Crucify Him, crucify Him!" And now Peter turns all that back on them. You guys sinned. It was not just any sin; it was Deicide. Could you imagine?! They had killed their Savior. They had killed their Messiah, their God and King, whom they thought they worshipped, you know, throughout the Old Testament period. But it came down to them when He appeared, and they killed Him. So their question obviously is logical here. What can we do about this? Is there a way for this to be fixed? What does that mean for us? Are we doomed to death? And luckily (luckily is not the word) Peter had an answer, a good answer, a biblical answer, an answer from God.
Acts 2:29-36
Excerpted from: Jesus Christ's AscensionNotice that Peter points out that what happened on Pentecost was a consequence of Jesus having been exalted to the right hand of God. Jesus received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, and He then gave gifts—especially that Spirit—to men. As it says, “He poured out this which you now see and hear.” So, the manifestation of the Spirit was evidence of Jesus sitting at the right hand of the Father, and of God having made Him “both Lord and Christ,” meaning, “the Anointed One.” The events of the day were proof of who Jesus was and the position He held at the Father’s right hand. Thus, Pentecost for the church follows on the heels of Christ’s ascension, exaltation, and sitting down.
Acts 2:36-39
Excerpted from: What Is the Church? Now during Peter's sermon, the light switch was turned on, the veil over their eyes was removed, as it were, and they recognized what they had done. Now God did that through Peter's message. God revealed what they had done, and the awareness of a need to change occurred.
These verses basically show the process in action. God calls and reveals Himself to us and how corrupt we are and we respond by believing and doing, believing in God and His Word, repenting and being baptized that we might receive the gift of His Holy Spirit.
