Excerpted from: The Glory of God (Part 1): The ShekinahWhat Moses is saying here is that the cloud is the glory of the Lord. Now, this is not exact. But, the cloud certainly represents the glory of the Lord. Just wanted to let you know that, because this is going to become important.
Do you understand what that means? There was an ongoing miracle of the pillar of cloud and pillar of fire for 40 years! That's why I said that normally the Red Sea crossing is pretty high on our list, but there was another miracle that may be even more stupendous!
The crossing of the Red Sea happened in one day, but the pillar of fire and cloud was there for 40 years—a visible presence of God for 40 years!
So, all the people had to do, if they felt that somehow God had abandoned them, was look in the direction of the tabernacle and they could see—day or night—this tremendous thundercloud, glorious with fire, and know that God was there.
The cloud of fire was the visible representation of God's presence with the children of Israel. If you would like, you could say that in an Old Testament circumstance, the cloud was "Emanuel"—God with us.

Excerpted from: The Covenants, Grace and Law (Part 13)The glory of God is, first of all, a reference to the infusion of light that appeared above and in the tabernacle when God took up residence there from time to time.
That is to what Paul is referring in Romans 5. That gives a starting point for those who understand what he is talking about here—the glory of God. What we have to do is update this, that is, bring it up into the time of Christianity. God was dwelling in the tabernacle, a type of the church. That light was a symbol of the Divine Nature emanating from there because God was present. The implication in Paul's writing in Romans 5 is that the Christian's hope is that he shall be (in an eternally growing degree) a possessor of the same glory.
