When they asked him (erwtwntwn autwn). Genitive absolute of present participle of erwtaw, old verb to ask a question, common in Koin‚ to make a request as here.
He consented not (ouk epeneusen). First aorist active indicative of epineuw, old verb to express approval by a nod, only here in the N.T.
