American Standard Version
But we going before to the ship set sail for Assos, there intending to take in Paul: for so had he appointed, intending himself to go by land.

Amplified® Bible
But going on ahead to the ship, the rest of us set sail for Assos, intending to take Paul aboard there, for that was what he had directed, intending himself to go by land [on foot].

Contemporary English Version
Paul decided to travel by land to Assos. The rest of us went on ahead by ship, and we were to take him aboard there.

Darby English Version
And we, having gone before on board ship, sailed off to Assos, going to take in Paul there; for so he had directed, he himself being about to go on foot.

Good News Bible
We went on ahead to the ship and sailed off to Assos, where we were going to take Paul aboard. He had told us to do this, because he was going there by land.

International Standard Version
We went ahead to the ship and sailed for Assos, where we were intending to pick up Paul. He had arranged it this way, since he had planned to travel there on foot.
