Romans 3:4
Compare all
2 Much in every way! Chiefly because ato them were committed the oracles of God.
3 For what if asome did not believe? bWill their unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect?
4 aCertainly not! Indeed, let bGod be true but cevery man a liar. As it is written:
d“That You may be justified in Your words,
And may overcome when You are judged.”
5 But if our unrighteousness demonstrates the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unjust who inflicts wrath? a(I speak as a man.)
6 Certainly not! For then ahow will God judge the world?
7 For if the truth of God has increased through my lie to His glory, why am I also still judged as a sinner?
8 And why not say, a“Let us do evil that good may come”?—as we are slanderously reported and as some affirm that we say. Their1 condemnation is just.

All Have Sinned

9 What then? Are we better than they? Not at all. For we have previously charged both Jews and Greeks that athey are all under sin.

American Standard Version
God forbid: yea, let God be found true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy words, And mightest prevail when thou comest into judgment.

By no means! Let God be found true though every human being is false {and} a liar, as it is written, That You may be justified {and} shown to be upright in what You say, and prevail when You are judged [by sinful men].

Contemporary English Version
No, indeed! God tells the truth, even if everyone else is a liar. The Scriptures say about God, "Your words will be proven true, and in court you will win your case."

Darby English Version
Far be the thought: but let God be true, and every man false; according as it is written, So that thou shouldest be justified in thy words, and shouldest overcome when thou art in judgment.

Good News Bible
Certainly not! God must be true, even though all human beings are liars. As the scripture says, "You must be shown to be right when you speak; you must win your case when you are being tried."

International Standard Version
Of course not! God is true, even if everyone else is a liar. As it is written, "You are right when you speak, and win your case when you go into court."

King James Version
God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.

New American Standard Bible
May it never be! Rather, let God be found true, though every man {be found} a liar, as it is written, "THAT YOU MAY BE JUSTIFIED IN YOUR WORDS, AND PREVAIL WHEN YOU ARE JUDGED."

New International Version
Not at all! Let God be true, and every man a liar. As it is written:
"So that you may be proved right when you speak
and prevail when you judge."

New King James Version
Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written:
“ That You may be justified in Your words,
And may overcome when You are judged.”

May it never happen! Rather, let us find God true, though every man lie, as the scripture reads, " THAT YOU MAY FIND JUSTIFICATION IN YOUR WORDS, AND PREVAIL WHEN YOU RECEIVE JUDGMENT."

let it not be! and let God become true, and every man false, according as it hath been written, `That Thou mayest be declared righteous in Thy words, and mayest overcome in Thy being judged.'
