Excerpted from: Decide Now How You Will Respond!Please turn with me to I Corinthians 7, verse 1. An antidote to such behavior is a faithful marriage. Paul advises the Corinthian brethren, as they live in a sexually promiscuous society, about this temptation. Paul's principles of marriage are designed to counter sexual immorality. We are going to read verses 1 through 5.
So obviously Satan exploits areas where we do lack self-control. And apparently, of course, looking at the world, this is the greatest temptation of people, although there are many others, like power and money and so on.
Giving in to temptation shows a lack of self-control, a surrender of our guard and morals. And what most people in this day and age do not realize is that even sexual immorality outside of marriage or before marriage, which is fornication, is a sin and must be repented of. And it is too common everywhere.
The person who allows the sinfulness of the world to ensnare him, and who allows himself to be caught in the non-Christian activities of society, has one fundamental problem: he degenerates for lack of self-discipline. He dies for lack of self-control.
I Corinthians 7:1-4
Excerpted from: Passover and I Corinthians 10Physically, you do not belong to yourself exclusively either! If you are single, you belong to the one you are going to marry. And, even though you may not know that person, they have authority over your body. It is of such seriousness (if you want to check it in Deuteronomy 22) it can lead to the defrauding of that person. All that is wrong with sex in this case is the timing. It has to wait until it is within the marriage bonds.
In verse 4, where it says "authority"—another translation would be "you have rights over the other person." Paul says we are responsible to pay them what is due. The conclusion is that neither person—man or woman—has the right to use his body completely as he chooses because of the responsibility to the other person, married or unmarried. Even though unmarried, and you may not have met that person, that person that you might marry has a vested interest in your body. It is a defrauding of that person because you are not using it in the right way.
