1 Corinthians 15:42

40 There are also¹ celestial bodies and terrestrial bodies; but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.

41 There is one glory of the sun, another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differs from another star in glory.

42 ^aSo also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption.

43 ^aIt is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power.

44 It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

45 And so it is written, ^a“The first man Adam became a living being.” ^bThe last Adam became ^ca life-giving spirit.

So is the resurrection of the dead (outwv kai h anastasiv twn nekrwn). Paul now applies his illustrations to his argument to prove the kind of body we shall have after the resurrection. He does it by a series of marvellous contrasts that gather all his points. The earthly and the risen beings differ in duration, value, power (Wendt).

It is sown (speiretai). In death, like the seed (I Corinthians 15:37).

In incorruption (en afqarsiai). Late word from a privative and fqeirw, to corrupt. In LXX, Plutarch, Philo, late papyrus of a Gnostic gospel, and quotation from Epicurus. Vulgate incorruptio. The resurrection body has undergone a complete change as compared with the body of flesh like the plant from the seed. It is related to it, but it is a different body of glory.
