I urge you, brethren—you know athe household of Stephanas, that it is bthe firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have devoted themselves to cthe ministry of the saints—
athat you also submit to such, and to everyone who works and blabors with us.
I am glad about the coming of Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus, afor what was lacking on your part they supplied.
aFor they refreshed my spirit and yours. Therefore backnowledge such men.
That ye submit yourselves unto such - That ye have due regard to them, and consider them as especial instruments in the hand of God for countenancing and carrying on his great work. The submission here recommended does not imply obedience, but kind and courteous demeanour. Kypke vindicates this sense of the word from Ephesians 5:21; I Peter 5:5.
