American Standard Version
Him who knew no sin he made `to be' sin on our behalf; that we might become the righteousness of God in him.

Amplified® Bible
For our sake He made Christ [virtually] to be sin Who knew no sin, so that in {and} through Him we might become [endued with, viewed as being in, and examples of] the righteousness of God [what we ought to be, approved and acceptable and in right relationship with Him, by His goodness].

Contemporary English Version
Christ never sinned! But God treated him as a sinner, so that Christ could make us acceptable to God.

Darby English Version
Him who knew not sin he has made sin for us, that *we* might become God's righteousness in him.

Good News Bible
Christ was without sin, but for our sake God made him share our sin in order that in union with him we might share the righteousness of God.

International Standard Version
