5 Examine yourselves asto whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, athat Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you1 are bdisqualified.
6 But I trust that you will know that we are not disqualified.
Paul Prefers Gentleness
7 Now1 I pray to God that you do no evil, not that we should appear approved, but that you should do what is honorable, though awe may seem disqualified.
8 For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth.
9 For we are glad awhen we are weak and you are strong. And this also we pray, bthat you may be made complete.
I pray God that ye may do no evil - To give me occasion of showing my apostolical power. I do not desire to appear approved - By miraculously punishing you. But that ye may do that which is good, though we should be as reprobates - Having no occasion to give that proof of our apostleship.
