Ephesians 4:25
Excerpted from: Have You Become an Example to All Who Believe?

On the other hand, falsehood damages friendships within the church. Ephesians 4:25 says, "Therefore putting away lying, let each each one of you speak truth with his neighbor, for we are members of one another." So our unity in the spiritual church of God requires it. It requires us to be completely truthful.

The connection between God's truth and good behavior helps us understand why children of God need to develop righteous character. It is fascinating to see an apparent harmony in the human body. The eye never betrays the hand; nor the hand, the foot; nor the heart, the lungs. The entire body moves in perfect harmony, as if each part would completely trust the others.

Ephesians 4:25-32
Excerpted from: God's Spiritual House

Now this list is not just a list, if you notice, of what not to do, but tells us what we should be doing. Not only does Paul say, do not lie, he says, speak the truth. If you get angry, do not sin and make sure you get over it before sunset. Do not steal. And not only do not steal, but get a job so you can help others. Go to work! Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but what is good and may impart grace to the hearers. Do we impart grace?

Ephesians 4:25
Excerpted from: Love's Greatest Challenges

Why do we lie? Generally we do it to make ourselves look good to gain advantage over another. We lie because of the fear of discovery, the fear of losing status, reputation, power, or money. And you see what it does? It puts us behind the eight ball when it comes to loving other human beings. The fear of loss keeps us from keeping that commandment which says, “You shall not bear false witness.”
