Ephesians 5:10
Compare all

Walk in Light

8 For you were once darkness, but now you are alight in the Lord. Walk as children of light
9 (for athe fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth),
10 afinding out what is acceptable to the Lord.
11 And have ano fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather1 expose them.
12 aFor it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.
13 But aall things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light.
14 Therefore He says:
a“Awake, you who sleep,
Arise from the dead,
And Christ will give you light.”

Walk in Wisdom

15 aSee then that you walk1 circumspectly, not as fools but as wise,
16 aredeeming the time, bbecause the days are evil.

Ephesians 5:10

Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord - That is," Walk as children of light Ephesians 5:8, thus showing what is acceptable to the Lord." Rosenmuller supposes that the participle is used here instead of the imperative. The meaning is, that by so living you will make a fair trial of what is acceptable to the Lord. The result on your happiness in this life and the next, will be such as to show that such a course is pleasing in his sight. Dr. Chandler, however, renders it as meaning that by this course they would show that they discerned and approved of what was acceptable to the Lord. See the notes on Romans 12:2, where a similar form of expression occurs.
