Ephesians 6:12-13
Excerpted from: Prepare

“Put on the whole armor of God” means to hide in it, to wrap yourself in it, to clothe yourself with the armor of God.

These are not just things that we read over, or things that we pick up. These, I have come see, are things we do. These are active steps that we must take to stand.

He says, “that you may be able to withstand in the evil day.” This does not necessarily mean the end of the age, it means when your trial hits you—whatever severe trial hits you—you take up the armor of God to stand.

Brethren, he does not mean just to stand, he means to stand and be victorious, because God is going to see that you are going to win. You are going to win, we all are.

Ephesians 6:11-13
Excerpted from: Are You Strong in the Lord?

Paul does not tell us to do nothing. Quite the contrary, he tells us to exert ourselves with all our might, but that the power given to us to do so is God's, and from Him, and that we must increasingly learn how to rely upon that power. It is not that we do nothing, but He does everything; and not that we do everything and only ask for some help and encouragement. It is neither of these alternatives. It is a perfect blending of His power and our activity. It is our efforts in and through the power that He gives us.

And so in order to withstand something evil, we must really be giving a lot of effort on our part, but it is God who actually empowers us.

Ephesians 6:10-17
Excerpted from: A Band of Christian Brothers

Paul is working hard to prepare us for that war. Four times within there he talks about standing firm, stand against, withstand. He is telling us that if we stand firm in Christ, then Christ will be with us because we are standing up for Christ. And know only through Jesus Christ that we can defeat this enemy. That is why He provides these resources for us. We cannot do it on our own. Again, this is a spiritual war. And so only through His strength and His power will we overcome it.
