Your forbearance (to epieikev umwn). "Your gentleness," "your sweet reasonableness" (Matthew Arnold), "your moderation." Old adjective (epi, eikov) as in James 3:17; I Timothy 3:3. Article and neuter singular here= h epieikeia (Acts 24:4; II Corinthians 10:1) like to xrhston in Romans 2:4.
The Lord is at hand (o kuriov egguv). "The Apostle's watchword" (Lightfoot), as in I Corinthians 16:22 (Maran aqa, Aramaic equivalent, Our Lord cometh). Unless, indeed, egguv here means near in space instead of
nigh in time.
