1 Thessalonians 5:12

10 awho died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.  
11 Therefore1 comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.  

Various Exhortations

12 And we urge you, brethren, ato recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and1 admonish you,  
13 and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. aBe at peace among yourselves.  
14 Now we1 exhort you, brethren, awarn those who are unruly, bcomfort the fainthearted, cuphold the weak, dbe patient with all.  
15 aSee that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always bpursue what is good both for yourselves and for all.  
16 aRejoice always,  
17 apray without ceasing,  
18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
19 aDo not quench the Spirit.  
20 aDo not despise prophecies.  
21 aTest all things; bhold fast what is good.  
22 Abstain from every form of evil.

Blessing and Admonition

23 Now may athe God of peace Himself bsanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body cbe preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  
24 He who calls you is afaithful, who also will bdo it.  
25 Brethren, pray for us.

1 Thessalonians 5:12

Know them - Act kindly towards them; acknowledge them as the messengers of Christ; and treat them with tenderness and respect. This is a frequent meaning of the word . See on John 1:10 (note).

Them which labor among you - The words have appeared to some as expressing those who had labored among them; but as it is the participle of the present tense, there is no need to consider it in this light. Both it and the word ̈́ , the superintendents, refer to persons then actually employed in the work of God. These were all admonishers, teachers, and instructers of the people, devoting their time and talents to this important work.
