Commentaries:
Robertson's Word Pictures (NT)
Despise not prophesyings (profhteiav mh ecouqeneite). Same construction, stop counting as nothing (ecouqenew, ouqen=ouden), late form in LXX. Plutarch has ecoudenizw. Plural form profhteiav (accusative). Word means
forth-telling (pro-fhmi) rather than
fore-telling and is the chief of the spiritual gifts (1Co. 14) and evidently depreciated in Thessalonica as in Corinth later.
Other Robertson's Word Pictures (NT) entries containing 1 Thessalonians 5:20:
Romans 14:3
1 Thessalonians 5:19
