1 Timothy 5:6
Compare all
4 But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show piety at home and ato repay their parents; for this is1 good and acceptable before God.
5 Now she who is really a widow, and left alone, trusts in God and continues in supplications and prayers anight and day.
6 But she who lives in1 pleasure is dead while she lives.
7 And these things command, that they may be blameless.
8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, aand especially for those of his household, bhe has denied the faith cand is worse than an unbeliever.

1 Timothy 5:6

she that liveth in pleasure—the opposite of such a widow as is described in I Timothy 5:5, and therefore one utterly undeserving of Church charity. The Greek expresses wanton prodigality and excess [TITTMANN]. The root expresses weaving at a fast rate, and so lavish excess (see on James 5:5).

dead while she liveth—dead in the Spirit while alive in the flesh (Matthew 8:22; Ephesians 5:14).
