Excerpted from: Are You Strong in the Lord?So here, despite human beings abandoning him, mostly out of fear, probably, he knew that the Lord was there standing beside him and strengthening him, and he had that assurance, and he lived by it. Notice the sequence of events, always in the same order. God strengthens us through His Spirit. He does not take the problem out of our hands, but Paul was heartened by knowing that, in his words, "The Lord stood with me and strengthened me."
