American Standard Version
who can bear gently with the ignorant and erring, for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity;

Amplified® Bible
He is able to exercise gentleness {and} forbearance toward the ignorant and erring, since he himself also is liable to moral weakness {and} physical infirmity.

A high priest has weaknesses of his own, and he feels sorry for foolish and sinful people.
