American Standard Version
for he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchizedek met him.

Amplified® Bible
For he was still in the loins of his forefather [Abraham] when Melchizedek met him [Abraham].

Contemporary English Version
This is because Levi was born later into the family of Abraham, who gave a tenth to Melchizedek.

Darby English Version
For he was yet in the loins of his father when Melchisedec met him.
