Hebrews 11:38

Of whom the world was not worthy (wn ouk hn aciov o kosmov) Graphic picture in a short parenthetical relative clause (wn, genitive plural with aciov), a phrase to stir the blood of the readers.

Wandering (planwmenoi). Present middle participle of planaw, like lost sheep, hunted by wolves.

Caves (sphlaioiv). Old word from speov (cavern) as in Matthew 21:13.

Holes (opaiv). Old word, perhaps from oy (root of oraw, to see), opening, in N.T. only here and James 3:11. Cf. I Kings 18:4; II Macc. 5:27; 10:6 (about Judas Maccabeus and others).
