The Dead Church

1 “And to the1 angel of the church in Sardis write, ‘These things says He who ahas the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars: “I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead.  
2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before1 God.  
3 aRemember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and brepent. cTherefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you das a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you.

Revelation 3:1

The seven spirits of God - The Holy Spirit, from whom alone all spiritual life and strength proceed. And the seven stars - which are subordinate to him. Thou hast a name that thou livest - A fair reputation, a goodly outside appearance. But that Spirit seeth through all things, and every empty appearance vanishes before him.
