Robertson's Word Pictures (NT)
Helped the woman (ebohqhsen th gunaiki). First aorist active indicative of bohqew, old verb with the dative as in Hebrews 2:18, which see. Herodotus tells of the Lycus disappearing underground near Colossae. But this vivid symbol is not dependent on historical examples.
Swallowed up (katepien). Second aorist active indicative of katapinw, literally "drank down."
