13 aHe was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called bThe Word of God.  
14 aAnd the armies in heaven, bclothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses.  
15 Now aout of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And bHe Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. cHe Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.  
16 And aHe has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: bKING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, a“Come and gather together for the1 supper of the great God,  
18 athat you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people,1 free and slave, both small and great.”  
19 aAnd I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army.  
20 aThen the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and bthose who worshiped his image. cThese two were cast alive into the lake of fire dburning with brimstone.  
21 And the rest awere killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse. bAnd all the birds cwere filled with their flesh.

Revelation 19:15

out of his mouth . . . sword— (Revelation 1:16; Revelation 2:12, Revelation 2:16). Here in its avenging power, II Thessalonians 2:8, "consume with the Spirit of His mouth" (Isaiah 11:4, to which there is allusion here); not in its convicting and converting efficacy (Ephesians 6:17; Hebrews 4:12-13, where also the judicial keenness of the sword-like word is included). The Father commits the judgment to the Son.

he shall rule—The HE is emphatic, He and none other, in contrast to the usurpers who have misruled on earth. "Rule," literally, "tend as a shepherd"; but here in a punitive sense. He, who would have shepherded them with pastoral rod and with the golden scepter of His love, shall dash them in pieces, as refractory rebels, with "a rod of iron."

treadeth . . . wine-press— (Isaiah 63:3).

of the fierceness and wrath—So ANDREAS reads. But A, B, Vulgate, Coptic, and ORIGEN read, "of the fierceness (or boiling indignation) of the wrath," omitting "and."

Almighty—The fierceness of Christ's wrath against His foes will be executed with the resources of omnipotence.
