Excerpted from: The Sabbath: CreationShabbat is the seventh day of the week, the day of rest; the day we stop. We understand that after being in the church for as long as we have, the Sabbath is far more than simply a day of lounging around in your pajamas. That is not what God has in mind about the Sabbath. For one thing, we would go back to Leviticus 23, we see that the Sabbath is another day of holy convocation.
It is repeated here, that this is a Sabbath, a stopping of solemn rest and then it says, a stopping of the Lord or a cessation of the Lord in all your dwellings. God wants us to get the idea as He is telling us here what the Sabbath is all about. It is a special day. This is a day of stopping what we have done normally to do something else.
Being a holy convocation also means that we are officially summoned to worship God together on this day. In that case, just thinking of what convocation is, we are all worshipping before the Lord. It is a day of learning, and because we are all there together, it is also a day of fellowship—the day when we can join together with people of like minds to learn about God and to grow.

Excerpted from: Holy GroundI read that because of the word convocation. It means a calling together, a sacred assembly. The word implies that we are officially summoned to be here. So a part of keeping God's law is that He wants us to have interaction and involvement with the brethren, with God's people on a regular basis. That is why He gave it to us every seven days. He knew how much we need this day.
And it is very important, not just for the learning that we get through the sermonettes and the sermons. It is also very important to be here so we can help and encourage our brethren, or they can encourage you. God knew what He was doing. Mark 2:27 says the Sabbath was designed to serve mankind. And that is what it does. If we are keeping it properly, it is a delight. The Sabbath is a time of rest, reflection, and spiritual growth.

Remember, I mentioned earlier that the Sabbath is a key to understanding things in God's incredible work of redemption and healing, because He has given it to us as one of those keys that we can use as we go through these things. “These are my feasts,” God says. This is the One who signed His Creation with the seventh day Sabbath. The Sabbath is always going to be God's signature of sovereignty between God and His Creation. Then Moses goes on throughout the rest of the chapter, repeating from God who had given him to list the feast days, as you well know. Of course, this week and tomorrow's 8th day festival are among them. But let us read of the verses regarding the count to Pentecost in verse eleven.
