Now when we think about the Sabbath and rest, we typically think about the weekly Sabbath that occurs on Saturday, the seventh day of the week. Here, God is outlining a Sabbath and a rest for the land. This is important.
So we see here that in punishing Israel, God ensured that the land received the rest He had required, something it had not received in years past due to disobedience.
And then my third bullet is God's green movement, again, better than any green movement of this world. The sabbatical year allows for the soil to rest and rejuvenate the minerals it needs to host a fruitful crop.
