Leviticus 25:8-17
Excerpted from: Deuteronomy, Land Sabbaths, Atonement, and Third Tithe

This scripture reveals that Atonement is the anchor point for counting the seven-year cycle and properly arriving at the year of release and then eventually at the the fiftieth year, which is the Jubilee year. It is also interesting that a trumpet is used to mark the start of that year.

Now again this year, the Jubilee year is anchored on the Day of Atonement. The trumpet is to sound throughout the land, and there is a proclamation of liberty, that is, a blessing that is to go throughout all the land and its inhabitants.

It is interesting to me that God says in verse 12, "it shall be holy to you," which in my mind means it is something that we should observe.

This year teaches us that God commanded a release of all of the inhabitants of the land and all of the inhabitants of the land to return to their possessions and family.

It was more than the seven-year land Sabbath. It was a complete release of all debt, as well as a land Sabbath.

It is interesting to me that in verses 13 through 17, God says, you shall not oppress each other, and He says that twice. Like the seven-year land Sabbath, do we let offenses go, or do we oppress one another by holding on to various wrongs or infractions?
