Leviticus 25:42

40 As a hired servant and a sojourner he shall be with you, and shall serve you until the Year of Jubilee.

41 And then he shall depart from you—he and his children ^awith him—and shall return to his own family. He shall return to the possession of his fathers.

42 For they are ^aMy servants, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt; they shall not be sold as slaves.

43 ^aYou shall not rule over him ^bwith rigor, but you ^cshall fear your God.

44 And as for your male and female slaves whom you may have—from the nations that are around you, from them you may buy male and female slaves.

45 Moreover you may buy ^athe children of the strangers who dwell among you, and their families who are with you, which they beget in your land; and they shall become your property.

Leviticus

LEVITICUS. So called from its treating of the laws relating to the ritual, the services, and sacrifices of the Jewish religion, the superintendence of which was entrusted to the Levitical priesthood. It is chiefly, however, the duties of the priests, "the sons of Aaron," which this book describes; and its claim to be the work of Moses is established by the following passages:— II Chronicles 30:16; Nehemiah 8:14; Jeremiah 7:22-23; Ezekiel 20:11 Matthew 8:4; Luke 2:22; John 8:5; Romans 10:4; Romans 13:9; II Corinthians 6:16; Galatians 3:12; I Peter 1:16.
