Numbers 5:8

6 “Speak to the children of Israel: ^a‘When a man or woman commits any sin that men commit in unfaithfulness against the Lord, and that person is guilty,

7 ^athen he shall confess the sin which he has committed. He shall make restitution for his trespass ^bin full, plus one-fifth of it, and give it to the one he has wronged.

8 But if the man has no relative to whom restitution may be made for the wrong, the restitution for the wrong must go to the Lord for the priest, in addition to ^athe ram of the atonement with which atonement is made for him.

9 Every ^aoffering of all the holy things of the children of Israel, which they bring to the priest, shall be ^bhis.

10 And every man’s holy things shall be ^ahis; whatever any man gives the priest shall be his.’ ”

Numbers

NUMBERS. This book is so called because it contains an account of the enumeration and arrangement of the Israelites. The early part of it, from the first through the tenth chapters, appears to be a supplement to Leviticus, being occupied with relating the appointment of the Levites to the sacred offices. The journal of the march through the wilderness is then given as far as Numbers 21:20; after which the early incidents of the invasion are narrated. One direct quotation only from this book (Numbers 16:5) is made in the New Testament (II Timothy 2:19); but indirect references to it by the later sacred writers are very numerous.
