Numbers 14:6

4 So they said to one another, ^a“Let us select a leader and ^breturn to Egypt.”

5 Then Moses and Aaron¹ fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.

6 But Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes;

7 and they spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying: ^a“The land we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land.

8 If the Lord ^adelights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, ^b‘a land which flows with milk and honey.’

9 Only ^ado not rebel against the Lord, ^bnor fear the people of the land, for ^cthey are our bread; their protection has departed from them, ^dand the Lord is with us. Do not fear them.”

Numbers

NUMBERS. This book is so called because it contains an account of the enumeration and arrangement of the Israelites. The early part of it, from the first through the tenth chapters, appears to be a supplement to Leviticus, being occupied with relating the appointment of the Levites to the sacred offices. The journal of the march through the wilderness is then given as far as Numbers 21:20; after which the early incidents of the invasion are narrated. One direct quotation only from this book (Numbers 16:5) is made in the New Testament (II Timothy 2:19); but indirect references to it by the later sacred writers are very numerous.
