Numbers 18:16

Numbers 18:16

14 ^a“Every¹ devoted thing in Israel shall be yours.

15 “Everything that first opens ^athe womb of all flesh, which they bring to the Lord, whether man or beast, shall be yours; nevertheless the firstborn of man you shall surely redeem, and ^bthe firstborn of unclean animals you shall redeem.

16 And those redeemed of the devoted things you shall redeem when one month old, ^aaccording to your valuation, for five shekels of silver, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, which is ^btwenty gerahs.

17 ^aBut the firstborn of a cow, the firstborn of a sheep, or the firstborn of a goat you shall not redeem; they are holy. ^bYou shall sprinkle their blood on the altar, and burn their fat as an offering made by fire for a sweet aroma to the Lord.

18 And their flesh shall be yours, just as the ^awave breast and the right thigh are yours.

Those that are to be redeemed - Namely, of men only, not of unclean beasts, as is manifest from the time and price of redemption here mentioned, both which agree to men; the time, Numbers 18:16, the price, Numbers 3:46-47, but neither agree to unclean beasts, which were to be redeemed with a sheep, Exodus 13:13, and that after it was eight days old.
