Numbers 20:4

2 ^aNow there was no water for the congregation; ^bso they gathered together against Moses and Aaron.

3 And the people ^acontended with Moses and spoke, saying: “If only we had died ^bwhen our brethren died before the Lord!

4 ^aWhy have you brought up the assembly of the Lord into this wilderness, that we and our animals should die here?

5 And why have you made us come up out of Egypt, to bring us to this evil place? It is not a place of grain or figs or vines or pomegranates; nor is there any water to drink.”

6 So Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the door of the tabernacle of meeting, and ^athey fell on their faces. And ^bthe glory of the Lord appeared to them.

7 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

NUMBERS. This book is so called because it contains an account of the enumeration and arrangement of the Israelites. The early part of it, from the first through the tenth chapters, appears to be a supplement to Leviticus, being occupied with relating the appointment of the Levites to the sacred offices. The journal of the march through the wilderness is then given as far as Numbers 21:20; after which the early incidents of the invasion are narrated. One direct quotation only from this book (Numbers 16:5) is made in the New Testament (II Timothy 2:19); but indirect references to it by the later sacred writers are very numerous.
