16 Then the Lord met Balaam, and aput a word in his mouth, and said, “Go back to Balak, and thus you shall speak.”  
17 So he came to him, and there he was, standing by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab were with him. And Balak said to him, “What has the Lord spoken?”
18 Then he took up his oracle and said:
a“Rise up, Balak, and hear!
Listen to me, son of Zippor! 
19 “Goda is not a man, that He should lie,
Nor a son of man, that He should repent.
Has He bsaid, and will He not do?
Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? 
20 Behold, I have received a command to bless;
aHe has blessed, and I cannot reverse it. 
21 “Hea has not observed iniquity in Jacob,
Nor has He seen1 wickedness in Israel.
The Lord his God is with him,
bAnd the shout of a King is among them. 
22 aGod brings them out of Egypt;
He has bstrength like a wild ox.

Numbers

NUMBERS. This book is so called because it contains an account of the enumeration and arrangement of the Israelites. The early part of it, from the first through the tenth chapters, appears to be a supplement to Leviticus, being occupied with relating the appointment of the Levites to the sacred offices. The journal of the march through the wilderness is then given as far as Numbers 21:20; after which the early incidents of the invasion are narrated. One direct quotation only from this book (Numbers 16:5) is made in the New Testament (II Timothy 2:19); but indirect references to it by the later sacred writers are very numerous.
