Interesting, is it not? The rainbow is not just a memory hook for you and me. Surprisingly, we see here that it is a reminder for God! I do not think that we would ever think of Him forgetting, so that is put there for you and me to take assurance in.
These last two scriptures especially are something that Richard referred to this morning. They are anthropomorphisms. It is a way of perceiving God as if He were a man and needed to be reminded. It is something that we can relate to. It is ascribing human qualities to God.
We know He does not forget at all! That is put there just in case this slips our mind; to know that God is going to be reminded. He is right there and He is going to be working on our behalf, even when we think that He has gone way off somewhere.
Just as God saved only Noah, the preacher of righteousness, from the Flood, God spared only righteous Lot from Sodom and Gomorrah.
I told you we would come back to that, that God remembered Abraham. What is this telling us? God is not pointing back to Abraham's request for intercession on Lot's behalf here. We are all judged on our own. We cannot pass righteousness from one person to another. So what is God pointing to here? He is pointing back to his covenant with Abraham. It is promised to all those of the faith that are the sons of Abraham, the spiritual sons of Abraham. We can jot down Galatians 3:9 and 13 through 14.
