Deuteronomy 4:37
Compare all
35 To you it was shown, that you might know that the Lord Himself is God; athere is none other besides Him.
36 aOut of heaven He let you hear His voice, that He might instruct you; on earth He showed you His great fire, and you heard His words out of the midst of the fire.
37 And because aHe loved your fathers, therefore He chose their1 descendants after them; and bHe brought you out of Egypt with His Presence, with His mighty power,
38 adriving out from before you nations greater and mightier than you, to bring you in, to give you their land as an inheritance, as it is this day.
39 Therefore know this day, and consider it in your heart, that athe Lord Himself is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other.

Deuteronomy 4:29-40

Unwilling, as it might seem, to close his discourse with words of terror, Moses makes a last appeal to them in these verses in a different strain.

Deuteronomy 4:34

Temptations - Compare Deuteronomy 7:18-19; Deuteronomy 29:2-3; not, "i. e." the tribulations and persecutions undergone by the Israelites, out the plagues miraculously inflicted on the Egyptians.

Deuteronomy 4:37

He chose their seed after them - literally, "his seed after him." Speaking of the love of God to their fathers in general, Moses has more especially in mind that one of them who was called "the Friend of God" James 2:23.

Brought thee out in his sight - literally, "by His face:" "i. e." by the might of His personal presence. Compare Exodus 33:14; where God promises "My presence (literally ' My face' ) shall go with thee."
