He had hope. "Well, if God will have me kill him that will not stop God's promise. He could raise him from the dead. Isaac will live." There was hope for life. And so, he went through it.

And that answered Isaac's question. They were in agreement. They walked together, because not only did Abraham have this hope, Isaac too had this hope because Abraham was an excellent father. The two went up on the mount in agreement that God would provide a lamb for the offering. And God did, in the next few verses.

Abraham, speaking here of the lamb, means Isaac. Whether Isaac has figured this out or not, I do not know. God will provide, it says. Abraham knows that however all of this comes down; however it all transpires and works out, God will take care of things. And of course, later He does provide an animal for the offering, and later still, provides Christ as the Lamb.

Brethren, we see here in this event with Abraham the ultimate work of the friends of the King of Peace, in faith doing whatever it takes to follow His commands, knowing that it will always work for good to those who love the King of Peace and are called to His table of unity, no matter how much it costs.
