This and the following verses down to the end of I Samuel 17:31 are omitted in the Vatican copy of the Septuagint, as are I Samuel 17:55-58. The object of the omission was doubtless to avoid the apparent inconsistency with regard to Saul' s acquaintance with David (see I Samuel 16:21 note).
