7 However I did not believe the words until I came and saw with my own eyes; and indeed the half was not told me. Your wisdom and prosperity exceed the fame of which I heard.
8 aHappy are your men and happy are these your servants, who stand continually before you and hear your wisdom!  
9 aBlessed be the Lord your God, who bdelighted in you, setting you on the throne of Israel! Because the Lord has loved Israel forever, therefore He made you king, cto do justice and righteousness.”  
10 Then she agave the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold, spices in great quantity, and precious stones. There never again came such abundance of spices as the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.  
11 aAlso, the ships of Hiram, which brought gold from Ophir, brought great quantities of1 almug wood and precious stones from Ophir.  
12 aAnd the king made1 steps of the almug wood for the house of the Lord and for the king’s house, also harps and stringed instruments for singers. There never again came such balmug wood, nor has the like been seen to this day.  
13 Now King Solomon gave the queen of Sheba all she desired, whatever she asked, besides what Solomon had given her according to the royal generosity. So she turned and went to her own country, she and her servants.

I & II Kings

THE FIRST AND SECOND BOOKS OF KINGS, in the ancient copies of the Hebrew Bible, constitute one book. Various titles have been given them; in the Septuagint and the Vulgate they are called the Third and Fourth Books of Kings. The authorship of these books is unknown; but the prevailing opinion is that they were compiled by Ezra, or one of the later prophets, from the ancient documents that are so frequently referred to in the course of the history as of public and established authority. Their inspired character was acknowledged by the Jewish Church, which ranked them in the sacred canon; and, besides, it is attested by our Lord, who frequently quotes from them (compare I Kings 17:9; II Kings 5:14 with Luke 4:24-27; I Kings 10:1 with Matthew 12:42).
